"CAMPIONE": The Story

CAMPIONE.

cam|pió|ne

Italian for Champion.

The song CAMPIONE (performed by E-Type) was first used by the Salinggawi Dance Troupe in the 2006 CDC; it was the song playing in the background while the SDT was doing the last pyramid in their record-setting fifth straight UAAP cheerdancing title.
The same song was again used by SDT during the opening ceremony of the 70th UAAP Season, which was hosted by UST. This time, the song was played live by the UST Symphony Orchestra and sung by the UST Singers.

First proposed by Joey Bautista (AB-Journalism 2005), it also made its debut on the 2007 UAAP CDC, along with the "KAMI PO" banner. It has also made appearances at the Philippine Volleyball Federation-sponsored Inter-Collegiate Games held at the RTU Gym in Mandaluyong (wherein the UST Women's Volleyball Team emerged as the champion), and also at The Arena, the site of many championships for UST (wherein the UST-WVT has 3 titles under its belt).

The "Kami Po" Banner: The Story Behind It

It was first unfurled at the 2007 UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
It was inspired by Dr. Cabral's emphatic introduction of the school during the Opening Rites of Season 70 UAAP, which UST hosted.

The banner was lovingly put together less than 24 hours before the actual cheerdance competition.

The water used in making the wordings of the banner was taken from the UST Fountain, right beside the Arch of the Century.

It was the brainchild of two enterprising and creative Packers -- Joey Bautista (AB-Journalism 2005), who first proposed it to the group, and Marvin Pingol (CFAD, 1999), the artistic and creative mind behind many a banners, tarpaulins and many other Packer paraphernalias.

It has been a witness to many games and competitions, as well as dinners and meriendas, along with its equally  popular CAMPIONE banner -- it has been at the Big Dome and at The Arena, just to name a few.
It has been part of the greatest triumphs of Thomasian student-athletes, as well as crushing defeats.

Through it all, it has captivated the hearts not only of the players, but of the whole UAAP as well.
Its meaning so simple, its message both proud and graceful - truly an eloquent reflection of our Thomasian upbringing.

CAMPIONEs: UST-GVT

The UST-Girl's Volleyball Team continues it winning streak: Sweeping the UAAP Season 71 enroute to it's second consecutive UAAP crown; then capturing the top honors in the Toribio Cup; and then crowning themselves as queens in the Shakey's V-League for Girls.

CAMPIONEs: UST-WVT

The UST-Women's Volleyball Team crowned themselves as the National Champions in a tournament held by the Philippine Volleyball Federation last May, 2008, which was held at the RTU Gym in the City of Mandaluyong. This marked the last time volleyball icons Mary Jean Balse and Venus Bernal lead the team to a championship, as they have played out their eligibility in the UAAP.
Truly, a fitting farewell to two of the most revered and feared names in Philippine Women's volleyball action.

CAMPIONEs: UST-MVT

The UST-Men's Volleyball Team has just recently successfully defended their volleyball crown, in a sizzling fashion -- they went 17-0, dropping only 2 sets out of the 54 that they played. A historic moment shared by the humble CAMPIONE banner.
